Direct and indirect speech
1. The maid asked: “Do you like tea or coffee?”
The maid asked whether I liked tea or coffee.
2. Father said, “The boys were really excited by the match yesterday”.
Father said that the boys had been really excited by the match the day before.
3. I said to my friend yesterday, “Do you like coffee or tea?”
I asked my friend whether he/she liked coffee or tea.
4. “Don’t be so silly”, the father said to his kids.
The father told his kids not to be so silly.
5. “Do you feel better?” I asked her.
I asked her whether she felt better.
6. Mary asked: “Tom when are shops closed on Saturday?”
Mary asked Tom when the shops were closed on Saturday.
7. She said, “I’ll leave as soon as I get a telegram”.
She said that she would leave as soon as she got a telegram.
8. “Roger and David went to the station an hour ago”, their mother said.
Their mother said that Roger and David had gone to the station an hour earlier.
